Minimalism is a style for those who look to the future. The validity of this statement is confirmed by many designers. They believe that a modern person will most quickly rest and regain strength after a busy day in a spacious room, free from unnecessary details, details and things. However, to embody the minimalism style in the interior is not as simple as it seems at first glance. Creating an interior, it is important to very subtly feel the difference between ascetic and functional life. After all, the interior in the style of minimalism is not necessarily an empty open room with a couch in the role of all the necessary pieces of furniture. Not. Minimalism allows you to create a convenient, comfortable and functional interior, which uses a small amount of quality items.
The concept of minimalism arose from the Latin word minimus, which translates as the smallest. That is, in the interior of the premises they use the smallest combination of colors, textures, shapes and objects. The most popular color scheme of the design in the style of minimalism is the contrast of black and white. The most suitable shape is streamlined or rectangular. The history of minimalism
Minimalism is a unique phenomenon in the history of art. It is impossible to date, since it never existed independently, did not occupy a certain historical period of time, such as, for example, Baroque or Gothic. It existed in parallel with them, was used in architecture, interior design, painting, music and even household appliances. The use of the necessary minimum of details, each of which takes a strictly reserved place for it, creating a harmony of space, this is what minimalism has determined since the beginning of the twentieth century.
Constructivism, which is characterized by a clear organization of space, the use of technical innovations and achievements of modern science, and the preference for clear and functional designs, is considered a harbinger of style. He dominated in America and Europe in the 20-30 years of the twentieth century, subjugating the interiors of city apartments and industrial facilities. The basic principles of constructivism had a strong influence on the ancestor of minimalism - Frank Lloyd Wright - an American architect. He designed simple and functional houses for ordinary workers. However, they appealed to many connoisseurs of everything modern. Homes and interiors, devoid of decor, splendor and romantic understatement, became especially popular in the second half of the twentieth century.
The interior of the house was designed by F. Wright.
The townspeople appreciated and adopted the minimalism style for such features:
- simplicity of forms of furniture and space;
- open and not cluttered interior;
- convenient and comfortable arrangement of all necessary household items;
- additional free space, which organizes the interior design in the style of minimalism.

The main features of the style of minimalism
Design in the style of minimalism differs in general principles, among which are:
1. Use as the basis of a spacious open-plan room. If the room has partitions, walls or is characterized by an abundance of small rooms, then it will be converted. Remove all unnecessary nooks and crannies, making the space free and open. If it is technically impossible to demolish all the walls, they are partially dismantled. That is, in place of small doorways, wide arches are organized, several supporting columns turn the wall.
2. Creating a comfortable environment with diverse lighting. Light plays a major role in creating the character and image of the room. For example, the use of a central chandelier and soft spotlights allows you to highlight the main and secondary zone, to illuminate only the area of the dining room or living room. Colored lighting allows you to instantly transform a laconic white interior into a bright room for a good party.
The use of hidden and central lighting in the design of the room.
3. The lack of small decor is the main sign of style. In a room where all objects are called to play a useful role, small romantic decorative elements are not needed.
4. Using geometrically regular shapes. Upholstered and cabinet furniture are selected in a simple, concise design with a pronounced rectangular or rounded shape. Using furniture with curls, obscure or abstract ledges is undesirable. It is important that it be monophonic.
5. Two colors are the basis of the interior, the third is the emphasis. For the interior in the style of minimalism is characterized by the use of a minimum of dim neutral colors. The most popular ones are white, gray, black. As an accent, bright saturated colors are used - red, yellow, blue.

Stone and glass are at the heart of the modern interior.
Color palette
When planning a project of an apartment in the style of minimalism, the designer chooses one or two primary colors. They become the basis of the color palette of finishing materials and furniture. Most often, white color prevails in interiors, the purity and expressiveness of which is emphasized by the depth of black surfaces or bright paintings.

The game of contrasts is a favorite theme of many minimalist designers. The most popular combination is the equivalent combination of white and black.

However, white is not an indispensable immutable rule. It is successfully replaced by the texture of natural materials. For example, based on the texture of natural wood (brown gamma), stone (sand and gray gamma) or metal (chromed surfaces).
Decoration of ceilings
To emphasize minimalist design, its simplicity and the beauty of the lines, use the following options for decorating the ceiling:
- plain stretch ceiling in white, beige or sand;
- ordinary ceiling painted in a bright monophonic matte paint;
- multi-level, emphasized by point and hidden illumination.

Flooring
To decorate the floors, practical monophonic materials are selected. If a bulk floor is used, then it is made without a drawing. The tiles are selected high-quality, wear-resistant, preferably large format. Wooden floors are laid directly or decked. For wood floors, one species of wood is used, not alternating dark and light boards and not laying them out with a pattern. Linoleum can also be good options for flooring.

A rug with a high pile is selected in the bedroom, living room or bathroom. It is desirable that it be of the correct form, monophonic and without patterns.

Usually it has a geometric shape, can be either symmetric or asymmetric. Upholstered furniture of a rectangular or oval type with plain upholstery is most suitable. It can be decorated with chrome details. The beds are selected in a simple rectangular shape. Prefer soaring models, backlit, large beds with hidden storage system or round specimens.
The room is not cluttered with unnecessary pieces of furniture, it should contain only the most necessary. It is desirable that they combine the functions of two or more objects. For example, a dining table - a buffet, a wardrobe bed. Often the room is equipped with built-in furniture and appliances, freeing up space.

Lighting Rules
Minimalism requires good planned lighting. It helps to zon, change and transform space. Often, completely white rooms are equipped with two types of lighting - everyday and festive. That is, on weekdays the room includes ordinary lamps with white diffused light, and on holidays, with the help of lights located around the perimeter of the ceiling, furniture or in niches, the white room is painted in blue, red or red. Often use hidden lighting, which spreads from under the furniture, plumbing.
Rooms with high ceilings are equipped with hanging chandeliers. Plafonds are selected with a discreet design and a minimum of crystal pendants. Chandeliers can be supplemented with directional lights, spotlights or floor lamps.
