Polyfoam is a cellular material of white color. The structure of 98% consists of air foamed with plastics. The cells are isolated from each other, so the material has good thermal insulation performance.

Polyfoam is used for thermal insulation of buildings for various purposes, for the manufacture of chests, refrigeration units, for protection against freezing of cables of the underground telephone line and power supply and for the insulation of underground utilities.

Opinions on polystyrene as a heater

Polyfoam as a heater reviews get mixed reviews, highlight its main advantages and disadvantages, and read more reviews left by our visitors:

Advantages of polystyrene.

  • qualitatively protects from cold and freezing;
  • does not lose its characteristics in contact with moisture;
  • not amenable to the effects of fungi and microorganisms;
  • does not react with concrete, cement mortars and materials for finishing;
  • lightweight: there is no need to further strengthen the insulated structures;
  • does not absorb odors;
  • suitable for insulation of roofs, facades, floors and door leafs;
  • safe when observing installation rules.

The disadvantages of polystyrene.

  • the material is susceptible to damage by mice: to prevent damage to the material, it is better to take polystyrene foam for floor insulation with impregnation;
  • it is quite combustible, therefore it is not recommended to lay it in places that are heated, and where there is contact with sparks or an open flame;
  • burns quickly, emits toxic substances that are dangerous to human life.

Polyfoam is cheaper and easier
A comment
I have been engaged in facade insulation for more than 10 years and I can say that they have not yet come up with better materials for decorating the facade (except for minvata but it is more expensive), the foam is cheap and it is easy to work with. The main thing is to follow the right technology.
pros
Cheap, lightweight, durable, low thermal conductivity, easy to process and finish, high speed
Minuses
Burning, eating mice, pecking chickens)
Term of use
more than five years

Polyfoam - a heater not for private houses
A comment
Using the foam, they insulated the roof of the garage, which adjoins the house. As regards the heat-insulating properties, everything is fine - the garage has become noticeably warmer, and this is felt. The joints were covered with mounting foam so that cold air did not enter through the cracks. But the problem is that the foam began to gnaw at the mouse. In silence, it is very audible that they made moves inside the foam. Perhaps soon the holes will even be through. So, we will no longer use polystyrene to warm other rooms.
pros
Good thermal insulation properties, low price, easy to install
Minuses
Not suitable for private houses if they have mice.

more than three years

Polyfoam is good, but not always and not everywhere
A comment
Polyfoam is a good insulation. However, before applying it, it is worth considering what problems exist in your room. It is not recommended, for example, to use polystyrene in homes where there are problems with rodents, high humidity and inadequate ventilation. If the named moments are absent, you can safely warm the room with polystyrene foam.

This insulation is one of the cheapest, it is lightweight, has excellent insulation, moisture repellent properties, is easy to use (it will not be difficult to cover the walls with polystyrene foam even alone).
It is indispensable for wall insulation in city apartments, but for summer cottages it is not the best option.
pros
Low price, lightness of material, repels moisture
Minuses
Fragility, the need for additional ventilation

Styrofoam insulation
A comment
I used polystyrene as a heater during construction. It so happened that the second floor of the house could not be completed in one season. It was urgent to insulate all the walls and ceiling of the unfinished floor. For this, I used polystyrene 50 mm thick. Outside, around the perimeter, vertically screwed 50 x 50 bars, inserted foam sheets between them and covered everything with siding. The gaps were filled with mounting foam. Now February is coming, and we can say that warming works perfectly.

I used polystyrene because two years ago I just warmed the change house like that and until now there have been no complaints. I thought that was enough for the maximum season, but still everything is in order.
pros
First of all, lightness. No helper needed. Secondly, the price. Thirdly, it is easy to dock, you can literally remove the excess with the cutter. And, as it turned out, foam insulation is quite durable.
Minuses
The main drawback, it seems to me, is the fragility of foam sheets. You have to work very carefully. And yet it must be covered from direct sunlight, otherwise it will soon begin to crumble at any touch. But he has more advantages.

Polyfoam - high-quality insulation for walls
A comment
I thought seriously about polystyrene when I bought a corner apartment in a brick house from Soviet times, and the bedroom turned out to be a corner. In summer, nothing is in it, but in the first winter we froze thoroughly. Friends advised polystyrene, praised it for a long time, said that I would not regret it. He insulated the outer walls of the apartment 4 years ago. The wall in the winter is warm and dry from the inside, and in the summer it is comfortable in the room, so no air conditioning is needed. The temperature due to it does not rise in the house, but the existing one is kept, that's for sure. And this is a significant savings for your wallet if you have individual heating.

And even outwardly I did not notice any deformations of the foam. Everything is beautiful and without cracks for so many years. I recommend everyone this insulation, which passed my test. Yes, in addition, polystyrene is considered a relatively inexpensive and high-quality material.
pros
Does not absorb moisture, durable, keeps temperature
Minuses
Toxic on burning
Term of use
more than five years
