How to care for a laminate - mine is correct and we display various spots

My laminate flooring is right

Caring for a laminate floor does not require any special equipment. Laminate, unlike parquet, is not required to be varnished or polished. When buying a coating, you can consult with the seller what and how best to wash the laminate. The protective top layer has a dust-repellent effect, which prevents the rapid accumulation of dust on the surface of the laminate.

Many doubt whether it is possible to wash the laminate with water. Well-known manufacturers offer high-quality modern flooring that does not deteriorate when moisture gets on it. Therefore, you can wash the laminate. There is no difference in principle with which mop to wash the laminate, the main thing is that the rag is soft and the water is warm. To eliminate strong contaminants, a detergent for the laminate can be added to the water.

Laminate is not demanding on itself, but there are some important rules knowing that you will understand how to properly care for a laminate in order to extend its life:

  • Do not use abrasive cleaners, as this will damage the upper protective layer. For the same reason, do not clean the floor with hot steam.
  • To remove stubborn dirt or stains, use special products recommended by the manufacturer.
  • During rearrangement, do not drag heavy furniture on the floor, but try to lift it, or lay something soft under it.
  • Laminate floors are resistant to animal heels and claws, but can be damaged by the legs of chairs and small furniture wheels. Therefore, glue soft felt pads on them to prevent scratches.
  • If scratches or dents still appear, then they can be masked with a special paste, having pre-selected the desired color. If the damage is severe, then the board can be replaced.

Removing stains from laminate flooring

Before washing floors from the laminate, it is necessary to remove stains, if any.

1. Stains from chocolate, grease, juice, or alcohol can be removed with a neutral pH liquid detergent, such as Mr. Muscle for Laminate. Dampen a soft cloth with this product, cover it with a stain and leave it on for 5-10 minutes. Then rinse with clean, warm water.

2. Traces of tar, pencil, ink, shoe polish, lipstick, charcoal, cigarettes or nail polish are removed with methyl alcohol. Be careful when handling these substances, as they are toxic and inappropriate handling can harm your health.

3. If spots of candle wax or chewing gum have appeared on the floor, then you need to wait for them to solidify completely, and then carefully scrape them off with a knife. You can attach an ice cube to the contaminated area, then wax or chewing gum will be easier to remove.

Features of caring for different types of laminate

1. Glossy (polished) coating requires more attention. Such a laminate needs to be washed so that it shines. Therefore, at the end of cleaning, be sure to wipe the floor with a dry cloth. Try not to walk on such a barefoot coating, especially if you have applied oily cream to your feet.

2. Matte finish usually gets dirty faster.Over time, a wax coating forms on the matte laminate. To remove this greasy film you need to use a special cleaning spray with an alcohol content. Before cleaning, spray the product over the surface and leave it on for several minutes. Then rinse with clean water and wipe with a dry cloth. Using an alcohol-containing spray is a great way to clean a laminate without streaks.

3. Laminate with chamfers around the perimeter of the board. This coating is more sensitive to water, so you need to carefully squeeze the rag before washing the laminate. Of course, the bevels of the boards also have a protective coating, but still make sure that water does not accumulate in them.

Laminate flooring is a great way to decorate your home. This flooring will last you a very long time, if you know how to timely and properly care for the laminate.
