Polystyrene concrete is one of the new types of cellular concrete. As the name implies, it contains polystyrene granules, and the filling is made of cement. Polystyrene gives building blocks lightness and strength. Reviews of polystyrene concrete blocks indicate not only their advantages, but also disadvantages. All the advantages of cellular concrete in polystyrene concrete blocks are preserved, but they are able to melt, crumble and lose strength when frozen.

Polystyrene concrete
A comment
In the construction industry, I am not a novice, as it happened, he lived in an apartment. The big family became crowded and I planned to build a house. Polystyrene concrete was chosen by me as a “heater”, I bought a mobile mixer for polystyrene concrete and cast solid walls.

I used a fixed formwork, sheets of LSU. From the usual profiles I assembled a wall frame, conducted electricity, heating, covered all LSU with water and poured the whole thing at once with polystyrene concrete. At the moment we have moved, I can say one excellent material, it copes warmly with its function in the house. I bought a mixer from Altaystromash, I myself produced polystyrene concrete, if you are looking for the highest quality possible and there will be no problems.

It is this building material that is ideal for a comfortable stay in the house. Before choosing which material to buy and what to build from, I for a long time studied on the Internet all the information about other building materials before I settled on polystyrene concrete. Frankly, all its positive properties have not yet been fully studied, but now I think that this is an ideal material for the construction of residential buildings.
pros
Warm house, durable material, easy to process, cheap material, good thermal insulation.
Minuses

Polystyrene concrete, warm, durable, durable

I myself am a manufacturer of these beautiful blocks, already 10 years old, at the moment I'm building a house for my parents, I have not even considered other materials! And as for the geometry that was written above, it was necessary to choose the manufacturer half the day. And it is imperative that polystyrene concrete blocks were produced on primary raw materials, i.e. Foamed polystyrene themselves at the factory, and some moths do it out of crushing (collect boxes from under fish, from trash, etc. and crush) the granule turns out to be torn and all qualities are lost.
pros
Warm, does not absorb water (compared to other cellular concrete) frost resistance from 150 cycles, also no blocks have it, it is earthquake-resistant, there is no battle during transportation, there is no need to additionally insulate ......
Minuses
did not find a minus

A two-story house was built from polystyrene concrete blocks.
A comment
A two-story house was built from polystyrene concrete blocks. I spread everything on glue in order to avoid the bridges of cold. I noticed that the quality of the blocks is not very good (though maybe it’s just me so “lucky”), the problem is all in size, the differences are big. He laid out the walls for a long time and spent a lot of glue. The thickness of the outer walls was 60 cm, and the floors were made of wood. Blocks used dimensions 60X40X30, density 400 kg / m3.

I do not recommend laying floor slabs without an arm belt.
The advantage of polystyrene concrete blocks is low thermal conductivity. In winter, it is warm in such a house, gas consumption is minimal, and accordingly, much less money is spent on accounts. Shrinkage requires a large house, then it will be necessary to wait.
In general, now I am naturally pleased with my home, since I participated in everything. But the second time I would not begin to build a house of these blocks.
pros
Warm home, cheap stuff
Minuses
Additional waste, material problems, requires prolonged shrinkage

At the moment I am satisfied with polystyrene concrete blocks
A comment
The construction of its cottage from polystyrene concrete blocks began last year. In winter, the construction site was frozen, and fortunately no cracks appeared, everything is fine, the house stands fortunately.

At the expense of nails, I support, they are easily hammered, they can be removed without problems with your hands. But by the way, the dowel is holding well. In general, the process of building with polystyrene concrete blocks is quick and pleasant.
When I started construction, I really could not find information about this material, so I built it relying on luck. The material has good characteristics:

- thermal conductivity of the block 400 - 0.1. W / (mxC);
- vapor permeability 0.08.

He planned to make concrete overlapping of the second floor, but he was afraid and preferred wood. Now I plan to insulate the roof, after which it will be possible to accurately tell about the thermal qualities of the blocks. But at the moment I’m satisfied.
pros
Cheap, fast and reliable.
Minuses
Need to sheathe material

Polystyrene concrete blocks - easy and inexpensive construction
A comment
Before starting to build a house, I calculated all the costs of the material and its relevance for my region. My attention was drawn to an article on polystyrene concrete blocks. General characteristics, such as: good thermal conductivity, weight and strength, as well as an affordable price - I was completely satisfied.

I went to the factory, talked with the manager, who painted all the advantages of this material in a very colorful way. After such a presentation, he made the final choice in favor of polystyrene. For the outer walls I took 300mm blocks (thickness) - a real benefit, because such a block replaces as many as 34 bricks.

The foundation for the house has been flooded since last summer and so I immediately started building the house. The light weight of this material inspired me to build myself. And in two months of unhurried work he laid out the walls with his own hands. For spectacular cladding used vinyl siding. The result is a very warm, beautiful and inexpensive house.
pros

Minuses
Imperfect geometry

Polystyrene concrete blocks are the best option for a budget building.
A comment
In the summer I started building my own house, the budget was limited, so I had to look at relatively inexpensive materials. It was long determined between expanded clay concrete and polystyrene concrete blocks, but after some consultation with specialists and analyzing such a ratio as price-quality, my choice fell on the latter. And while there is no reason for disappointment.

Stacking was carried out independently, all blocks are standard and adjusted without problems, they are also processed with ease, and without the use of special tools. Blocks are very light, which significantly affects the speed of construction. The walls of my house with dimensions of 7.3x9 meters have grown in less than a month.

I was very worried about how the blocks react when interacting with water, several rains passed during the construction, but my fears did not materialize, polystyrene concrete blocks do not absorb water, so the walls do not need additional waterproofing.

In general, summing up the work with polystyrene concrete blocks, I would like to note a number of positive qualities of this building material, but the main thing is that it withstands the test of time and my house has stood for more than a dozen years.
pros
easy to process, good thermal insulation, quick laying, budget price
Minuses
the test of the durability of the material in real conditions has to be tested by example
Term of use
half a year

Box for household construction - in less than a week.
A comment
Half a year ago, he helped his brother erect a household building - 25 meters long and 6 meters wide. The material just struck me, as I had never encountered this before. It turned out that the blocks with polystyrene concrete are very light, which greatly facilitates the work during installation. The three of us built the box, we managed in 6 days.

The only thing that bothered me was the softness of the material, any nail or screw included can be said without effort, this suggests that in the future there may be problems with fixing something to the walls.

After finishing construction and finishing work, I inspected the building. The heat efficiency of the material is good, the building is warm enough, and most importantly not damp. I’m not sure that such material is good for building a house, but for households, buildings, etc. it is very acceptable. Although there are examples of building a house from this material, more details in the video below.
pros
lightweight, simple to operate, heat efficient
Minuses
soft
